Fruit In Willamette Valley Promise* to
Do Unusually Wall.
Salem— Climatic conditions daring
the peat winter have bean exception-
ably favorable for all farm orops and
the present fair weather ia considered
ideal for fry it.
The cold spring has
kept the fruit trees back, thus protest
ing them to a large extent from danger
of injury from froata and late mins.
Growers expect tair weather through
the blossoming period and with suoh
conditions prevailing a full oropof fruit
will "s e t.”
Apples in the Willamette valley were
a short crop laat season and with even
fair conditions this year the tress a boo Id
bear an immense crop.
Cherry, pear
and prone trees are apparently in per
fect condition and there seems to be no
reason why a bumper crop should not
be realised. Tne high prices secured
in reoent yean for fruit has enoouraged
tha growers to do more extensive prun
ing and spraying that ever before, with
the result that the quality of fruit har
vested will be exceptionally good. Tne
coming of fair weather has set the plows
going In all orchards and cultivation
will this year be uncannily thorough.

The
removal of the rocks and reef* from this

fact that it could not be oarried on the

The Columbia ia now free from impedi

The fir* started almost from the
extreme southwest section o f the
city, and cut a path to the end of
