The New York Clearing-House, by author ising the issue of clearing-house certificates, has made it certain that no bank or trust company will tail simply because it can not sell its assets. The week’s experience showed that the bank ing o f the country is sound and atable. No city, no corporation and no man need fear that its banking resources will suddenly be cut off.—Philadelphia Press. There is an abundance o f mon ey in the Kansas City banks and the precautions adopted by the bankers are simply to guarantee that an abundance shall continue to be there. Kansas City bank depositors coaid fully protect one another if they would enter into and respect an agreement t o that effect. Well, that is hard ly practicable, but the banks, by their present clearing-house rule, have come as near giving the de positors just that kind o f protec- and a limited supply. Paper will cost 5 cents per pound within a year and there will be no reac tion unless American invention comes to the rescue. There is no field that offers so large a reward for the invention as a substitute for the present printing supply. If corn stalks could be utilized fbr making pa per, and it is predicted they will be, at the present price o f paper, stalks will be worth more money than an average corn crop at 40 cents per bushel. The best class o f Sunday papers will sell at ten cents as soon as the present contracts expire. The dollar magazine will soon be a thing of the past. The news print trust and the short supply o f raw material will bring the result in a year. Within the last 90 days in the face of the exist ing war on trusts, the Interna tional paper trust increased its capital stock $100,000,000 and today has absolute control o f the western product.—Ontario (California) Record.
