On last M onday m orning the bell cord a t the big school build- ami the old bell m g w as pi announced the opening o f the new school year, w ith the resnlt th at the homes o f Newberg swarmed and 546 o f the coming men and women of the country kept step w ith elastic tread, on their w a y to the place o f learn ing for enrollment. This is 142 more than were enrolled the first day o f last year, which makes a good showing for the gro w th o f Newberg during the year. Where- is there a tow n in the valley th at can show a better f record? L a st year the enrollment for the first day was 404 and w ith in tw o weeks time the number w as increased to 503. When the youngsters are all housed and counted this year the enrollment w ill no doubt exceed 700, which in itself makes a pretty fair popu lation for a country'village. The w ork w as begun by thir teen teachers but the board is already casting about for twej more which w ill be necessary to handle the w ork. Since the election of teachers some resignations have been made and the force as it now stands is in the follow in g order: Principal R. W . K irk, J. G. Mc Intosh, F. H.
