The members of the W om an’s Relief Corps gave a splendid banquet to the Grand Army veterans last Friday evening, which proved a very enjoyable occasion to all concerned. G. Newman, who w as ar raigned here last summer for sell, ing liquor to minors and on Sun day, w as tried this week in the circuit court a t McMinnville, and fined one hundred dollars. A very heavy frost fell last night, and this morning the fog came up the canyons from the river in a race with the sun to see which could first reach the blossoming fruit trees. Old Sol scored first, with the result that ’ much anxiety is felt for the cher ry crop. The meetings in progress a t the Brethren church are grow ing in interest and w ill continue in definitely. All are cordially in vited to attend. Geo. Utter came down from Lapw ai, Idaho, last week and has bought the Ullery cottage near the electric light plant for a home for his mother. The ladies of the Lewis and Clark club met a t the home ot Mrs. L. M. Parker Friday after noon and reorganized them selves into an auxiliary of the Newberg Board o f Trade, it be ing the consensus o f opinion t h a t more effective w ork could be thus accomplished. Officers elected were Mrs. Clarence Butt, president; Mrs. Jesse Edwards, vice president; Mrs N. C. Maris, secretary; and Mrs. J. B. Mount, treasurer. A committee com posed of Mrs. E. H. W oodward, Mrs. F. A. Elliott and Mrs. Jesse Edwards w as appointed to pre pare a constitution and by law s to present to the next meeting The ladies are taking up the new w ork with vim and detemina- tion and already have plans ma tured for raising funds to assist the Board ot Trade in securing a good exhibit for Newberg a t the Lewis and Clark fair.
