A t a r&ent meeting o f the
Farm ers’ Institute ali H ood
River, a highly instructive.paper
on
“ Decoration o f fcountry
Hom es” w as read by Henry T.
Williams, a prominent citizen o f
H ood River, and w a s repro
duced in the Pacific Homestead.
The introduction p f the valuable
contribstlon follows :
“ In these days o f thoughts o f
practical ^utility and strife for
financial gain from our farms, it
seems to me there is a side o f
great financial gain to be derived
from the proper decoration and
ornamentation o f our country
homes. -.A handsome r o w of
shade t^eiea in front o f a farm
wilt cause th at farm to sell for
enough more to pay for those
trees than it w ou ld w ith o u t:
and think of the large dividends
o f comfort and pleasure year
after year while you live there
enjoying the w o rk o f you r hands.
People do not like to p art w ith
beautiful trees; and m any a tree
has enhanced the value o f land
far more than the tree itself has
cost even with years o f care. A
citizen o f Geneva, N ew York, w h o
id a valuable tree th at w a s
married and disfigured by ’the
acks o f tnen putting up telegraph
wires, promptly sued and recov
ered the sum o f $185 for the
value of .that one Eree to his
place. W hat more beautiful ob
ject in nature than k beautiful
tree?
:!
“ A stoiy is told o f some little
childrerf born in N ew York w h o
had never seen the country, and
when they were given a summer
outing, in one o f the free chil
dren’s excursions, they were lost
in amazement and delight a t the
green gmss and the beautiful
trees. One little child w a s so
blessed'with the sight th at she
went up to one o f the trees,
threw her little arm s around it
and hugged and kissed it in a de
light of ecstasy. It seemed a be
ing from heaven tq her adoring
heart. W e live surrounded by
such blessings; w h y not use
them to our best advantage, en-

Bobbed the Grave.
A startling incident is narrated
by John Oliver of Philadelphia, as
follows:
“ I was in an awful
condition:
My skin was almost
yellow, eyes sunken, tongue coated
pain continually in back and sides,
no appetite, growing weaker every
dap. Three physicians had given
jpe up. Then I was advised to use
Electric Bitters; to my great joy
the first bottle made a decided im
provement. I continued their use
for three weeks and am now a well
man. • I know , they robbed tbe
grave of another victim.” No One
should fail to try them. Oniy 50
