the Secretary's proposition has the cor
dial support o f those who believe In
the gold standard and who tolerated
the party’s declaration in favor o f in-

that it was devoid of practical bearing.
On the other hand, it Is encountering
the tlrm resistance of those who be
lieve in internatieual bimetallism and

o f maintaining the existing gold stand
