If tbe proposed m eas ures are passed, th e conference w ill be com e histo rical, in the chnrch, as the m ost decidedly rev o lu tio n ary one ever held. T he a tta ck on the bishops is th e m ost notable m easure proposed. These d ig n i taries are now elected for life and re ceive an an n u al salary of $5,000. It is now proposed th a t the bishops be e le ct ed only for a term of years and retu rn ed to the m in istry w hen they have served th e ir tim e in the bishopric. It is Buid th a t m any delegates are in favor of the change, and it is w ell know n th a t there is strong sym pathy for the idea in C leve land. T he question of a d m ittin g wom en delegates has long been pending, but it bus now been su b m itte d to vote in the form of the B altim ore-C olorado a m e n d m ent. T he vote is nearly com pleted, and the result in the w estern und so u th ern sta te s gives a m ajo rity of over 400 m in iste rs in favor of the wom en. The colored conferences in the south w ent solid for wom en delegates. In th e e ast ern states the sen tim en t is a g ain st the am endm ent, and th is m ajo rity w ill be c u t dow n, a lthough probably uot over come. A nother proposition is for the up- p o in tu ie u t of a negro bishop for the 850,000 colored m em bers, w ho are at present w ith o u t a rep reseu tativ e on the E piscopal bourd. T he laym en w ill dem and th a t they be given equal representation w ith the m in isters, and th e m in iste rs w an t th e tim e lim it of pastorates extended or abolish ed. Some of th e delegates favor the fo rm atio n of dioceses and the adoption of a plan g iv in g bishops p erm anent re si dence.
