But Snow Plays
Devil With Pond
Ice skating at Camp Abbot is
about as popular as a blond with
an apartment, a check with the
sports department of the Special
Service Office revealed this
week. The announcement that a
lagoon in the floating bridge
area had been set aside for skat
ing had hardly reached the pub
lic before the department’s sup
ply of skates, about 40 pair to
bo inexact, was exhausted.
First snag in the program was
hit after the week-end when al
ternate freezes and thaws made
the ice too rough for skating and
a heavy snowfall covered the
pond. The lagoon will have to be
cleared of snow, scraped and re-
flooded before skating can be re
sumed, but no details are avail
able for the work.
I f a sufficient number of men
volunteer their services, efforts
will be made to put the pond
back in condition, Lt. Henry
Hansen, athletic officer, said.
Volunteers are requested to call
the All-Purpose Recreation Hall,
’phone 64.
