Elder James Hammer Laud Away.
Elder James Hummer, after an illness
of some time, passed away at his home
on Oak street, near Bear Creek, Friday
evening.
The funeral took place from the late
residence Sunday afternoon, the inter­
ment being in Aehland cemetery. A
quartette composed of T. F. Kershaw,
Ferd Strange, Fanny Fox and May Tif­
fany sang two hymns and Rev. F. G.
Strange preached the funeral sermon
The services at tbe grave were conducted
by Burnside Post, G. A. R.
The deceased was a native of Virginia,
but emigrated with his folks to Illinois
in 1844, and in the next year married
Mies Emily Jane Crawford who with sev­

of Neil creek, died a few months ago.
Elder Hummer was a minister of the
< Gospel for 52 years, being of the Free
Will Baptist confession of faith. He
, came to southern Oregon from California
in 1884.
At the outbreak of the civil war he en­
listed in the Union arm^r, Co. I, 11th
Missouri infantry, St Louis, and was dis­
