The Santa Fe railway has instituted a refrigerater car line between Fresno and Visalia to handle more rapidly and safely the heavy fruit crop of that sec tion. The greater part of the crop is canned or packed in Fresno. J. A. Their pack is slovenly and their arrangement irregu lar, but they have the goods, and under intelligent direction I cau see how they might become keen competitors, in Europe at least. Russia, I think, makes the strongest showing here of any country outside of France, and Italy has the finest building.” A New York commission merchant, who has lately visited Texas, reports to a New York trade journal as follows: “Texas will have peaches enough to supply all of the large western markets, while her shipments last, and Jackson ville alone, which is in the heart of the finest belt ef Texas, will ship out over 400 carload» of peaches this season. A good portion of the crop is of the Al berta variety cultivated for commercial purposes. Not only will the Texas crop be large, bnt the crop will be univers ally largo in this country this season, and every state in tli6 south and west will have peaches to market. Califor nia will be the only sufferer on account of the large supply, as she will not have the same opportunity to market her big crop that she has enjoyed for the past two seasons. Chas. H.
