It decided that the limited first-class rates between San Francisco and points in the San Joaquin valley, established in 1898, and continued until March of this year, were made to meet the competition of the valley road. It decided that the rates so established tc meet competition became fixed and per manent by the automatic working of ♦he constitution of the state, which prohibits the advancement of rates once reduced in such manner, without the commission’s consent. To cap all this, the commission ordered the offending corporation to re-establish its canceled schedule. The British ship Sierra Nevada, Cap tain Scott, from Liverpool, January 6, for Melbourne, was totally wrecked.
