It any doubt ever existed as to the value
•of the copper mines near Waldo, they were
dissipated this week by the new develop
ment work done on the mines. The vein
has widened out into a good-sized ledge of
high grade carbonate of copper and’ black
oxide of copper ore, the former carrying 36
per cent and the latter 54 per cent in cop

I company will at once erect its smelter; so
that within six weeks two siueltors will be
running in Josephine county and turning
! out copper bullion in no inconsiderable
quantity. As well known, the Elmer
-Brawn Voppper Co. has had tlie machinery
—save the blower—for this smelter on the
ground- for several months, partly in
place and housed, and would have had the
smelter running some time ago had the
management not deemed it prudent to
make some further explorations before
going to additonal expense. Now, as
before stated, all doubt has flown and the
smelter will beat once completed. These
mines are about five miles southwest of
Waldo and whal.i* knowv»ai I’«««- gulch.
