VIII. i f VALLEY ASHLAND, JACKSON Fiestcr Must Hang for Marder. Chas. Fiester, tbe brutal wretch who last May drowned his wife in a small pool of water near Merlin in the presence of their children, was convicted of murder in the first degree in the circuit court at GrantB Pass Friday afternoon, the jury being out 40 minutes. Geo. W. Colvig and R. G. Smith represented the poor, penniless and despised wretch and made the plea of insanity for their client. Very little evidence was introduced and it has been a very inexpensive murder trial for Josephine county. An appeal will be taken, of course, but as Fiester has no means or friends he will surely hang in the due course of time.
