Boggs, ex-city treasurer, was to-day arrested charged with embezzling $24,368 of tiie city’s money. Tbe charge states that he took tbe city cash, and in place put into the State Savings bank three notes that were worthless; one for $10,767; one for $7491, and one for $500; also that he en tered an item ns “campaign fund,” amounting to $5608. It seems that when ever be wanted money, be would draw on the hank and put notes in place of the cash. Ae to the campaign fund item, the bookkeeper at the bank explains that Boggs told him he had spent over $5000, Upon the bookkeeper asking him how he should charge the amount, goggs said: “Oh, charge in to the campaign fund.” The note for $10,000 is absolutely worth less, and the others would not realize 10 cents on the dollar. Pending the preliminary examination Boggs is about on a bail bond. M. D. PHYSICIAN and SURGEON, : A shland , : ; O regon . Office—At Residence intersection of Me chanic, Laurel and Main Streets.
