In the Pres byterian church, of which the decease I was a staunch pillar, the friends took a last look at the face of the dead man. Besides the religious service, the late Mr. Atkinson’s pastor for these many years, Rev. F. G. Strange, uttered a very appropriate and impressive discourse, the choir singing many of the late broth er’s favorite hymns. A large concourse ot people followed in a funeral procession to the grave to pay the last earthly re spects. Mr. Atkinson was 49 years old and leaves a wife and an adopted daught er 4 years old. Ratty Rogues. Klamath Star.] The populist government of Jackson county has got its hooks out in the hope of catching and getting back at least a portion of the plunder of the late demo cratic administration. The formal de mand it made last week on Ex-Treasurer Moore, now of Portland, that he return the amount he paid on that raised coun ty warrant, together with interest on the same from the time the warrant was paid until full settlement is made, is waking up the rascals who were turned out to snooze. Associated with the democratic gov ernment of Jackson county were several rascals with a email R—ratty rogues who haunted every hole through which a dollar could he pulled, and the amount one of them pulled out by raising that warrant is $363.12, exactly. Clerk Jacobs is doing good work at bis post, and as the eye be has got on the tracks of the plunderers is full of sharp and steady light, several interesting de velopments are expected. The Ashland Burglars Abroad. Martin, Moore & Co.’s store at Klam ath Falls was entered on the night of August 24th, the burglar breaking a pane of glass in the rear door, reaching in his hand, turning the key and walk ing in. Five dollars in change was taken from the money drawer, and the show cases disarranged. The burglars must have got scared as nothing else was missing. Some tough characters traveling with a bad woman from Med ford are suspected. Several days after ward a burglar entered F. P. Lights’ saloon at Lakeview from the back win dow, robbed the till of $3 worth of change and three quarts of whisky. These parties are also suspected of the robbery of Vaupel, Norris & Drake’s store in Ashland. A Defender ot Lynched Thompson. The Klamath Falls Express is one paper that defends Bill Thompson, rec ently taken out of the Lakeview jail and hung in front of the court house, thus: The facts are that Thompson was not in jail for whipping his wife—it is doubtless E RE IN IT THIS YEAR-bigger if he had a wife—hut for assault with a than ever, and solicit the handling gun upon W.
