The ttusetta Stone.
The “Rosetta Stone," a famous Egyp- i
tian curiosity now in the British Muse­
um. was discovered in the year 1799 by
M. Boussard, a French explorer, near
Rosetta, a seat«ort of lower Egypt It is
of black basalt, about forty inches long
and thirty inches wide. with three en­
graved inscriptions upon its surface.
The first of these is in Greek, the second
a conglomei-.tion of hieroglyphics, the
third in enelwrial writing, a system used
by the Egyptians in recording every day
matters. After years of laborious re-
