* THE COQUILLE HERALD PUBLISHED EVERY TUESDAY s office at Entered as secondxlass matter May 13, 1905, at the post 1879. _i __ s r P. C . L E V A R , L E S S E E A N D E D I T O R R O Y M . A V E R Y . B U SIN ESS M A N A G E R Devoted to the material and social upbuilding of the CoouilU Valley particularly and of Coos County generally. Subscription, $1 .5 0 per year, in advance. Phone Main 381 Next Tuesday The Herald will issue a special number, containing much matter that will be of interest to the thousands o f visitors who are expected to come from the outside for the Railroad Jubilee. There will be at least four teen pages of the issue, and very probably more. Four thousand copies will be printed, and arrangements will be made to have them distributed on the trains as they come from Eugene bearing the visitors. While the Herald is probably less well equipped than the other county papers for getting out an issue of this extent, we are doing it in order that the Coquille valley may be brought to the at tention of all those who attend the Coos Bay Rail Road Jubilee. It is not expected that the paper will do justice to this beautiful and fertile valley and its prosperous and enterprising people, yet we will make it as creditable an issue as is possible with the resources at our command. In connection, we wish to express appreciation of the as sistance given by the Coquille Commercial Club and the business men of this city. We have been especially pleased with the unsolicited endorsement and assistance coming from Bandon. That city certainly lives up to its reputa tion as the livest town in Oregon, and as soon as it was known there that The Herald contemplated the printing of a special number the Bandon Commercial Club asked for the reservation Ox a page. With no desire to “ blow” beforehand about what we are going to do, we wish to assure our readers that the issue will be one that they will be pleased with, and one that they will do well to send to any friends elsewhere who may be interested in the Co quille valley. To those who have not been asked to take advertising space, we will say that we are too busy to cover the ground thoroughly, but we will be glad to meet their desires in that regard, if we are notified in time. Any assistance in the way of data or short articles that would be of interest to the strangers will also help us to make a creditable showing for this part of the county. Marriage License* J. S Chambers and Iimina R Grass. Hortis H. Dorst and Ruby E Brooks. Fred Johnson and Lillie Dead- mond. Geo. W. Reeve and Alivilda Neis. Harry E. Benson and Edna E- Ruth. Send a copy of The Herald's spe cial number to your Iriends on the outside. We will mail them to any address lurnished at 5 cents per copy. the booze maker fighter. aud the booze- The Red Cross Society and all re bel associations of kindred kind were never so big and doing such great work as today; nevei so many nurses and doctors taking care of the wounded and sick, never before such big shiploads of supplies for ihejhungrv and destitute; never be fore has the divine right of man so thoroughly soaked into mankind as today, and the "divine right of kings" so thoroughly rated as a windy bladder, as it is today. If you do you arc beset by two great evils. One is the temptation to spend readily. A man with $ 1 0 0 in currency in his pocket is freer to spend than the man with little currency. He is more apt to break a ten dollar bill than be is to draw a ten dollar check. The other evil is the bait offered to thieves. A man who is known to carry a large sum of money in his tossession never can tell when he will be set upon by a tighwayman. The wealthiest men in the country sel dom carry large amounts of cash.
