Brought to Jail
August Gustafson was brought
over from the Bay last Wednesdav
by Oonstable Cox. He was under
sentence for robbery but had been
paroled on condition of refraining
from liquor as a beverage, which
parole he had violaled by getting
drunk. He is practically irrespon
sible. Tbe Marshfield saloon keep
ers claim that they furnished him
no liquor but that he connected up
with the flowing bowl at Ferndale,
where some bootlegger is operating.
This would indicate that bootleg
ging is uot coufined to dry towns.
Looking For Land
P. E. Schwabe, in charge of the
German immigration work connect
ed with the Oregon State Immigra
tion Commission, has been inspect
ing the Oregon coast country with
prospective colonists who are seek
ing locations on low-priced logged-
off or burned over land. He found
desirable lands valued by their
owuers at from $7.50 to $20 per
acre. Correspondence with pros
pective German and Scandinavian
homeseekers is growing steadily in
volume and every tew days sees
some families located.
Surprise W edding
A flurry of excitement ran around
town this morning at the rumor
that a double wedding had taken
place amoDg the young people.
A
hurried trip to tbe court house at
noon disclosed the
that a license
had been granted to Otto A. Mor
rissey and Mary Alta Stanley since
the inspection of the records a
couple of hours earlier, but it did
not appear that tbe other couple
mentioned had obtained such a doc
ument. Miss Stanley was the eldest
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. J.
Stanley and a popular and highly
respected young lady.
W a s in Hold-up
Mrs. C. E. Pollock, of Bandon,
passed through town last week on
her return lrom a trip to the East.
She was on the train which was re
cently held up near Pendletou and
was iu the very storm center ol the
excitement, as the shooting of one
of the desperadoes took place in her
car. She kept cool, and says that
they got none ot her money.

Deafness Cannot Be Cured
by local applications, as they cannot
reach the diseased portion o f the ear. ;
There is only one way to cure deafness,
and that is by constitutional remedies.
Deafness is caused by an Inflamed condi
tion of the mucous lining of the Eusta
chian Tube. When this tube is Inflamed
you have a rumbling sound or Imperfect
nearing, and when It Is entirely closed,
Deafness is the result, and unless the In
flammation can be taken out and this
tube restored to Its normal condition,
hearing will bo destroyed forever; nine
cases out of ten are caused by Catarrh,
which is nothing but an inflamed condi
tion of the mucous surfaces.
