cealed m u tu a l dislike betw een us.
Yet A n a n ia s had m any ad m ire rs
am o u g th e fa ire r sex in Q uincy H a r ­
bor, an d th e re w ere sev eral w idow s
w ho w ould glad ly have risked a n o th e r
m atrim o n ial v en tu re w ith th e little
sto ry te lle r a t th e helm.

seeing one.

w as th e v ery evidence of ou r eyes—a
sea s e r p e n t F ew had seen one, an d
th o se few h ad failed to produce th e ir
ev id en ce o f th e tr u th of w h a t they
had seen. B u t here w as A nanias, a
noted sto ry teller, n ot only seeing a
sen s e rp e n t, b u t ab le to confirm his
sto ry w ith tb e evid en ce of a sc o re of
his neighbors.
