W. G. Cleghorn, who opened a
grocery in the old city hall building
a short time ago, has transferred
bis business to Bandon.
He has
property th erein Industrial addition
and will have a store building erec
ted adjoining his residence, where
he will open up a suburban grocery
and expects to do a good business.
Mr. Cleghoru bas bad long experi
ence iu tbe grocery business and
will undoubtedly draw trade whom
ever he locates. He is rather sore at
the treatm ent he has received from
the city council, in th a t no good
way was provided for people to
rench his store after tbe street was
torn up for improvement and there
seemed little prospect of anything,
being done in th a t way until the
paving is finished next Bpring.

o u trig h t than in the more indirect
method of putting it on the market
as meat. T his conclusion can be
plainly seen in these startling fig
ures. In 1910 there were in the
rauge states of the west 30 , 000,000
cattle, while in 1913 there were but
23 , 000 , 000 , a decrease of 7 , 000,000
in three years. To meet the con
stantly growing demands, A rgen
tine beef has been shipped into this
country, bnt it is found to be infer
ior in quality. W ith a view to ben
efit by this condition, the island of
G uam is im porting and raising
standard breeds of American cattle.
These when imbred with the native
stock, prove to be of fair size and
superior quality.
Raising for the
American m arket should be very
profitable for the farmers of
the
island, as the vegetation
is tropical and therefore very lu x
uriant. Also much land toorough-
and wet for tillage may be used
to good advantage, and the tropical
climate makes sheltering and in
door feeding unnecessary.
