The Coquille Herald PUBLISHED EVEKY Official Boundary Line of the Proposed Port of Bandon Olive Oil TUESDAY Entenxl a» second dsns matter May 8, 1905. at the post office at Coquille, Oregon, limier act of Congre«» of March 8 , 1879. P. c . l.EVAK, L a m Devoted to the material and social upbuilding of the Coquille Valley par ticularly and o f Coo» County generally. Subscription, $1.50 per year in advance Phone Muiu 354, The Myrtle Poiut Enterprise takes a whack at the Sentinel in its last issue; and iucidently at the Herald, for what it pleased to term "k n ock ing” Myrtle Point. The kuocking done by the Herald consisted in proving that the Portland Journal was wrong iu publishing an inter view which stated that every house iu Myrtle Point had been built in the last 38 years, and that the Kn terprise was wrong in stating that the place was not known as Myrtle Point until alter 1880. It would seem that, in the interest ol histori cal accuracy, the Knterprke would acknowlege its error, but it hasn’ t seemed to be able to rise to that height As an addition to the above, the Enterprise man might jot down in his mental store house of facts the further particulars that the first paper o f any description in Coos county to use a cylinder press was the Coquille Herald, and that the first paper on the Coquille side of the divide to install a typesetting machine was the Coquille Valley Sentinel. And with all due admira tion for the dazzeling nerve of any one who puts in a linotype with which to set all the type on a paper the size of the Enterprise, the pro phecy is made right here that in the course ol a month or two the man who did it will wish in his heart that the machine was in Bos ton and he had one exactly like the one with which brother Cates is quietly and easily setting a paper just twice, and someiimes three times the size of the Myrtle Point paper. It will be unfortunate lor the cause of the Socialists if they allow their organization to be used as a catspaw by the anarchist I W. W . Thete was a time, not so many years ago, when the American peo ple looked upon socialism and an archy as one, and it took years for them to find out that they might be mistaken and that there might be some things in the socialist philosophy that would be wottb at tention. If the Socialists them selves now deliberately undo the work of years by placing themselves iu the light of red-eyed nihilists before the public they will make a mistake that will have far-reaching consequences.
