Coquille Herald. Sheriff W. W. Gage returned yesterday from Marshfield with Lewis Whitney in charge, ac cused with the selling of a horse which did not belong to him. He had hired the horse from the Pointer livery barn in Coquille some time ago for two days. He rode the animal to Curry coun- y where it seems he sold it and made use of the money. This is the young man whom it will be remembered accidentally shot a young man near this city about a year ago, the wound causing his death. He had a pre- linary hearing this morning be fore Justice Holden and was bound over to appear before the grand jury in the Jsum of $500 bail, in default of which he is now in jail. Notice. I respectfully request that no one hereafter ask me to officiate at weddings or funerals. I ap preciate friendship and love, but please remember that henceforth will have to refuse all such re quests, as I think such work should be done b ay Pastor. He is entitled to it, and I am in busi ness. I do not wish to appear as infringing on pastor's rights. Go to them they will serve you. So, I repeat do not ask me to officiate, and it will save embar- assment. Thanking you for past kindness, I am. Respectfully, (signed) C. H. Cleaves. to Hint hem Cooa wWi. Postley came iu to N orth Bend, S aturday evening, with the mail from the north. The day following he drew his pay from Tom Rennie, who has ihe mail contract over this route. Monday m orning the mail sack was discovered in the gasoline launch made fast to the slip at North Bend, but no trace of Postley has since been discovered. The prevailing opinion is th at he fell in to the bay and was drow ned — Sun. Additional Local. On T h u rsd a y of last week while riding on a sled with t1. B. This will be a great convenience for farmers who wish to come to town durin g the lo ng sum m er eveuings after work hours are over, and also those who arrive home lat< after a day’s trip ou the other side of tae river. John Moore, a Coos county pioneer who has resided at Pros per and other points on the lower river for many years, and who has lived in the county since ’71, was in town yesterday. He informs us that he expects to go on an extended trip, not stating just where he does expect to visit before returning. His many friends will wish him a pleasant time.
