summons, for want thereof the plaintiff
will take judgment against you and will
apply to the Court for the relief de­
manded in sail! complaint, a succinct
statement of which is as follows:
For a decree of this Court that the ti­
tle of plaintiff in and to lots 16, 17 and
18 in b'oek 27 in Portland addition to
the town of Bandon, in the County of
Coos and State of Oregon, according to
the plat of said addition on file and of
record in the office ot County Clerk of
said Coos County, be quieted as against !
the above named defendant; that said ]
defendant be required to set *ip the na­
ture and character of his adverse claim |
of interest or estate to said real estate;
that euid claim of interest or estate of
said defendant therein he declared null
and void and that the defendant be for­
ever enjoined and restrained from set-
tion up any claim of right, title, inter­
est or estate in or to the above described
real estate or any portion thereof; that
plaintiff have judgment against the de­
fendant for his costs and disbursements
in this suit; that plaintiff have such
other and further relief in the premises
as to the Court shall seem meet and
equitable.
Service of the summons in this suit is
made by publication thereof in the Co­
quille H urald by order of the Hon.
John S. Coke, Judge of the above entitl­
ed Court, duly made and t-ntere l on the
7th day of December, 1910.

Having been sent as a <ieh*g»t« to the
State Dairy Association by the dairy­
men of the Coquille it seems wise lo
the writer to make a brief report
through the press before the meeting
becomes too much a thing of past his­
tory.'
The meeting was a good one. The
representation from all parts of the
state was very satisfactory, excepting
from our section, being the one line
delegate from Southwestern Oregon it
behooves me to tell t he tale.
It appears there has been a decline in
tlie total amount of dairy products put
forth from the state, although higher
prices brought the financial returns
about up to the average.
Bovine tuberculosis was the topic
which attracted the most attention at
the convention. Some six months ago
the City of Portland passed a drastic
ordinance regulating the sale of milk
within that municipality. Among oth­
er requirements w. s one, that cows
should he tested for tuberculosis by the
tuberculin test. This ordinance was
found to conflict in certain points with
the state constitution but will soon be
amended so as lo become effective.
But the point is that the testing done
previous to this law being declared un*
constitutional showed a very serious
situation in the vicinity of Portland.
It is estimated that about .‘18 per cent
of the dairy cows in the immediate vi­
cinity of that city are infected. About
1,400 were slaughtered as a result of the
investigation. So far as examination
has been made in other parts of the
state the indication is that the infection
is very slight, running from 1 to 5 per
cent.
The result of these investigations and
the publicity given them by the Port­
land press has been to create a public
sentiment which will certainly result in
some kind of legislation.
Hence the
State Dairy association, after debating
and considering many propositions,
put itself on record as favoring a law
which should: First, give the state
veterinarian power to compel a cattle
owner to submit his herd to the tuber­
culin test when the circumstances
justify it; second, nmke it a principle
for a cattle owner to have his herd
tested at his own option by the proper
officials; third, provide a reasonable
compensation to cattle owners for nil
cattle ordered to he slaughtered, half
tc he paid by the state an 1 half by the
county in which the ease occurred.
The same resolution was adopted by
the State Butter and Cheese Makers’
association ami will, be endorsed by the
Pure-bred Livestock Association. This
puts the dairymen, the dairy manu­
facturers ami the stock breeders solid y
behind one hue of legislation.
