Reed, a young stranger who claims to be a cook, was arrested by Marshal Carter last evening and on him were tound several articles sto len by a sneak thief from Dorsey Kieitzen’s residence Thursday night. He is now confined in the city jail. Reed’ s arrest was due to his al leged pilfering o f rooms of work men in the Gow Wny building. He was seen rummaging around the rooms and was “ fired out” by some cf the other lodgers there. They didn’t think he had secured any think. Later, however, one of them missed a bank book and Gow Why put Marshal Carter on the trail. A fairly good descrip tion was obtained and last evening he was found hanging around one of the saloons on North Front street. In his shoe were found emblems of the Elk and Masonic orders which were taken from the Kreit- zer residence. Later today, the suspect said his name was Joseph Kelle y stead of Reed and said his home was in Pennsylvania. He claims he is in nocent of the alleged crime and al leges he secured the emblems in Washington sometime ago. He came to Coos Bay about ten days ago from Roseburg.— Coos Bay Times. The alleged decrease in the high cost of living at least furnishes plenty of food for thought. However, it is entirely probable the high cost of Hying isn't one of these things that can’t come back. The C u ctu s as a F o o d Plant. Did you ever suffer the pangs of thirst? Did the seductive High Ball, the yolnptuous Stein or all sufficient tin cup ever become an impossibility in your scheme of things? It you were dying of thirst and your canteen was empty and there were no thirst emporium bandy, do you suppose that you could eat a cactus? We doubt that you could be cause of the millions o f thorns that grow upon thorn. Did you ever hear that the greatest liviug autho rity on Horticulture, Luther Bur bank of Santa Rosa, California, a perfect wizard in the plant kingdom had propagated a cactus without thorns? Now this statement is not another of the wonderful that originate from that most wonderful State of California: It is simply an actual fact dressed up in suggestive lan guage. If any of our dear readers come from the land o f doubt and corn juice (Missouri,), all that we can say is that we are willing to prove the statement by showing you the wonderful exhibit that will be in the Northern California Citrus Fair at Sacramento during the Convention of the Western Fruit Jobbers, Februaiy 15 th. ----------» ««»•«---------- A G ood P osition Congressional philanthropists are considering the possibility of handling the rules in such a way as to prevent risk of the next speaker being called a czar. The “ 1892'' Pure Spun Aluminum Ware is rapidly coming into use for cooking purposes. It is taking the place o f agate and enamel ware because while its first cost is a trifle more than ordinary ware, it is really much cheaper in the long run, as it is guaran teed for twenty-five years and will last practically a life time. The genuine “ 1892” Ware, made only from pure SPUN (not cast) Aluminum, will not crack, scale, peel, break, scorch or bum. It looks like silver but weighs only about one- quarter as much, is easily cleaned and handled, and will not rusti corrode or tarnish.
