We 1 ike these old legends because they «ive us some ideas of those shadowy ages. A certain king and queen had three daughters. The two eldest were very beautiful but words could not describe the beauty of Psyche, the youngest. People came from far and near to pay homage to her, and even the admirers of Venus the goddess of love and beauty, left her and sought the presence of Psyche. Venus was very jealous and thought that her beautv deserved more praise than she was receiving so she desired her son Cupid to destroy Psyche’s beauty. Cupid took some water from a bitter and a sweet fjuntain and went to the couch where Psyche lay sleeping. He poured a few drops of the bitter w’ater on her lips but when he saw the frown spread over her face he poured the sweet water upon her hair and restored all her lotmer beauty.
