— A Decided Success— Tomorrow
Night The Senator's Daughter.
After a vacation of several
months, the Margaret lies Company
is agaiu with us. The play pre
sented by them last Thursday night
was “ Little Lord Founteroy,’’ in
which little Miss Thom of Myrtle
Point played the title roll in a man
ner that would have done credit to
one twice her years, and she cer
tainly has a future before her, in
the event she is given the opportu
nity, and this company is surely
giving her a good start. This play
is one in particular which gives
this character, that of small boy,
a great opportunity to exhibit the
talent within him, and she was Dot
found wanting, and brought out
the part in a manner that was ap
preciated by all. The other mem
bers of the company did their parts
in their usual clever and satisfactory
manner, making the performance
highly satisfactory to the large and
appreciative audience.
The stage settings in the second
and third acts were very attractive.
The furniture used was selected
from the large stock of W. C.
Laird, the complete house furnisher,
who occupies the first floor of the
theatre building, and who furnishes
any articles in his line needed on
the stage.
The specialties were first class in
every respect, one being a comic
song, entitled “ What’s the Use,” by
R. J. Haley. When encored Mr,
Haley sang a parody on his first
eoug, which pertained to Coos
county, and was original as well as
comic. The other specialty was
a song, which was rendered by
little Jo Thom, which was also en
cored and greatly enjoyed, as is ail
her work on the stage.
Tomorrow night the lies company
will play the society comedy drama,
entitled “The Senator’s Daughter.”
This is a piny full of comedy, with
a good deep plot, and you cant af
ford to miss it.

Board Supposed to
Have Perished
The lumber carrier San Buena
Ventura, which has been carrying
lumber from Bandon and other
points along the coast to San Fran
cisco and San Pedro, is reported
going ashore near the mouth of
ltogue river. The Ventura sailed
lumber laden from Eureka, Califor
nia, a short time ago, and it is
thought the recent heavy storm
has driven her ashore. Men were
seen clinging to the rigging at one
time, and as none have come ashore,
the supposition is that all are lost.
The San Buena Ventura Is a two-
masted schooner of 171 gross ton
nage, and carried a crew of 6 or 7
men.

The Coos Bay Times reports that
the Chamber of Commeice of that
city is getting busy soliciting sub
scriptions to a bonus fund for the
Coos Bay and Idaho railway pro
ject, the survey of which is being
conducted by Messrs. Haines and
Stevens, the latter gentleman, with
a orew of men now making their
headquarters in this city, and work
ing in the foothills opposite town.
The Bay people are expected to raise
$150,000, which the business men
of Marshfield consider reasonable,
and will no doubt sign up liberal
sums. We give below the text of
the contract submitted, which is
self explanatory, and which accord
ing to its terms, exacts nothing un
less the road is in running order by
July 1, 1912. The proposition reads
as follows:
“ We, the undersigned, each tor
himselt, agrees and promises to pay
to the Coos Hay, Oregon and Idaho
Railway Company or its successors
or assigns, at the general offices of
the said company at Marshfield,
Coos county, Oregon, the amount
set opposite our respective names,
on or before thirty (30) days from
the date that a locomotive propelled
by steam power shall first complete
a continuous trip over its railroad
from one terminus to the other as
contemplated by and in the promise
and agreement ot said company as
below herein written; provided,
however, that the said railroad
shall be completed tor such passage
or trip on or before July 1, 1912.
“ As a consideration for the fol
lowing subscription, the said Coos
Bay, Oregon and Idaho Railway
Company agrees for itself, its suc
cessors and assigns, that it will
build the aforesaid railroad from a
point on Coos Bay, Oregon, by way
of the immediate vicinity of the
city of Myrtle Point, Oregon, to a
point on the Southern Pacific rail
road at or near the city of Rose-
burg, Oregon, along and upon a
line as located as the most feasible
and best in the judgment of its
chief engineer, Fred A. Haines, or
his duly selected successor or suc
cessors.”
