Eight months from now, on the
first day of June, 1909, the gates of
the Alaska-Yakon-Pacific exposition
j at Seattle will be thrown open to
the public.
For four months
and a half the first great Paoific
world’s fair will receive visitors
from all parts of the globe.
If the
visitor comes on the last day, or in
August or on the opening day, be
or she will find things the same.
It is the intention of the officials of
this exposition to break all exposi
tion records, to establish a prece
dent and have all complete and in
readiness on the opening day. The
slogan of the enterprise is just that
“ Ready-on-the-opening-day."
The
people of Seattle and the Pacific
Northwest are accustomed to doing
things and they will do this with
characteristic promptness and en
ergy.

The building of better roads and
streets is not an expenditure, but
an investment, one which in a short
time will yield big returns.
Road
building to many is a problem, but
it need not be if any one would
consider and study it.
The study
of building pubile highways will
repay one. “ The whole people are
interested in the subject of build-
good roads,fand citizens of every
county in the state should work to
gether and co-operate with the
meeting which was held in Port
land October 22, when a measure
was framed to present to the
coming Legislature. It is only a
suggestion when I say that an ap
propriation of $ 10,000 for each
county must be asked of the state,
the counties to appropriate a like
amount, this fund to be used for
rosdbuildiDg. If a county cannot
contribute that amount and can
give only $ 1000 , then give that
amount, the balance, $9000, to go
into a general fund to be reappor
tioned.

which will have one of the largest

The Washington
State Building, which will be per

tracts have been let with a time
limit of February for the Artie
Brotherhood, B'orestery and W o

Government has its plans ready and
the commissioners will let the con
tracts within ten days and the build
ings must be ready two months be
fore the opening.
Every other
building to be erected can be run
