Last Saturday witnessed what was evidently the largest crowd ever assembled in Coquills, and some think, in the county. It cannot be said of the people of Coos county that they are forgetting the birth of our Country or losing interest in the day we celebrate. The weather was ideal, everybody good natured and all the details of the program carried out in due form. The people began to arrive in town from all directions at an early hour by wagons, and on schedule time the steamers began to arrive, three coming from Bandon and way points and one from the upper river, all carrying as many as they are allowod, and when the train pulled, in from Marshfield it carri ed five cars filled to thier utmost capasity, making in all, with our town’s people out, what was conserv atively estimated at from three to four thousand people. Promptly at the apponted time the parade was formed and circl ing around three blocks halted at the Collier Myrtle grove near the depot which had been arranged for the oe casion, the prosession being headed by one division of the band while the other brought up the rear, and was led b i Marshal of the day, C. M. Skeels. Order was called by President of the Day J. S. Barton. The exercises at the grove werer as follows: Invocation, cy Rev. W. S. Gordon. Song by double quartett, Hail to the Flag. Addrass of Welcome by Mayor Hawkins. • Song by quartette, Freedom’s Flag. Recitation, The First Flag, by Hornor Oddy. Song by quartette, Star Spangled Banner. The reading of the Decloration of Independence by Miss Atkinson. Oration by Hon. A. S. Ham mond. Song, by quartette, Let Hills and Vales Resound. After these exercises the barbe cue dinner was enjoyed. D jring the forenoon a ball game between North Bend and Bandon nines waH enjoyed by a large crowd and was won by Bandon, and in the after noon Coquille and Marshfield cross ed bats, the home team carrying away the laurels.
