R. J. Delia who returned last week
from ft sojourn of eight months
in California, notices the many
changes in oar growing little city,
and notes a wide contrast between
the pace at which we are going and
tlmt of the place in which he ua>.
been residing, and gives as the
main cause the lack of lumber with
which to build, and the cause of
this scarcity is the way in which the
markets and freights are manipu
lated.
In looking about over the
town ho notices buildings as follows,
erected and in course of construc
tion since he went away: The neat
and cozy homes of W . Y . Cope, E.
M. Furman, Joe Fish, Jonathan
Snow two, A . L. Miller two, L. P.
Maury, J. A . Davenport, John Per-
rott, Nonda Anderson, R. II. Mast,
Joe Bledsoe, Thos.Tennisson, J. H
Oerding, Frank Burkholder three, J.
C. Frye, J. H. Aker, N. C. Kelley,
Chas. Sampson, J. J. Stanley and
Mrs. Emma Hanscom. Then there
are the store buildings of Capt. But
ler, Mrs. A. Boyrie, the large hall
and store building of L R. Nosier
the three story addition to the Bled
soe rooming house, the ware house
of J. A. Lamb & Co., Pownder’s
livery stable,andGeo Leach’s annex
to the WickhamHotel, and Crewe &
Hannas Billiard hall. While a few
of those mentioned are additions,
they are of large proportions,
amounting to more than the orginal
buildings, and there are many other
minor improvements, neat individ
ual barns and out buildings too
numerous to mention, and with all
this extension of housing capacity,
it is almost impossible for a new
comer to find a place in whih to
