the position or uot.
My only in
tention for this appointment is
purely a desire to do good to those
interested in horticulture.
For
this reason allow me to send to you
for publication some remarks which
should be read by all fruit grow
ers and advice taken.
The pruning season forCoos coun
ty begius as soon as the leaves in
the fall have dropped off the tree,
and lasting until the latter part of
February, during which time when
frost is on the trees, pruning must
be delayed uutil the frost is thawed
out. Spraying for our insects here
should begin ns soon ns leaves fall
in autumn.
The most profitable
spray is Gordeau's Mixture, the
composition of which is sulphate of
copper, six pounds; lime, four
pounds; water fifty gallons.
To prepare this I will give fur
ther instructions in your next issue.
The second spraying should be
done as soon as the buds begin to
swell, the third spraying when the
blossoms fall; the two latter sprays
must be o f a modified strength.

to the reading of the selections from
Matthew Arnold’s work, both proes
and poetry, was most profitably
spent. The Domestic Science topic
also aroused much interest.
The next meeting of the Club
will be held with Mrs. Gould. Sub
ject, L o;d Robert Lytton and his
work. Current Events will occupy
he last half hour.
