Coquille Valley Real Estate
Aaaociation.
The above name was chosen by
the leading real estate men of Co
quille last Friday afternoon, when
they met in tbe office of J. J. Stan
ley to arrange themselves into clo
ser touch with each other and to
bring about more harmony in busi
ness relationship.
We havo long seen the need of
such an association and believe that
through such an orgranization the
valley can be more fully advertised.
The following are the members:
J. J. Stanley, Chas. Stanley, Geo.
E. Peoples (manager of the Coquille
Valiev Development Oo.), B, R
Pownder (manager of It. R. Pown
der & Co.),Frank Burkholder (man
ager of the Pacific Real Estate Co.),
C. R. Barrow and Z. C. Strang (of
the Home Realty Co.), B. Folsom,
W. L. Kistner and B. B. Pauli.
The following officers were elect
ed: Geo. E. Peoples, Chairman; R.
K. Pownder, Secretary; J. J. Stan
ley, Treasurer.
Chss. Stanley, R. R, Pownder,
and Frank Burkholder were ap
pointed a committee on literature
with which to advertise this section
of the county and if anyone has
any ideas they consider good, give
them to any one of the above coi
mittee.
We hereby extend our aid to this
new association.

Many young men as well as many
mature farmers who are so situated
that the) cannot take a four years
course of study desire to acquaint
themselves more fully with the
most recent developments in agri
culture. There are others who feel
the need of a more practical knowl
edge of farm mechanics and the
use of tools. It is to meet tbe needs
o f these classes that these courses
will be given. The course in house
hold science will be of value to the
women of the home who desire to
more thoroughly acquaint them
selves with the principles of good
cooking and of general home man
agement.
The subjects to he dis
cussed will be ot interest and im
portance to every farmer and home-
keeper and it is hoped that a large
number will take advantage of this
opportunity.
A circular containing further in
formation will be sent on a p p l i
cation to the agricultural College,
Corvallis, Oregon.
Jacobs Creek, Pa., Dec. 19.—An
explosion of gas in the Darr mine
of the Pittsburg Coal Company, lo
cated here, today entombed be
tween 200 and 250 miners, and
there is scarcely a ray of hope that
a single one of them will be taken
from the mine alive.
Partially
wrecked buildings in the viciuity of
tbe mine and the condition of tbe
few bodies found early in tbe res
cue work indicate an explosion of
such terrifio force that it seems im
possible that any one could have
survived it. All of he 13 bodies
taken out up to this time are terri
bly mutilated, and three of them are
headless.
This is the third mine disaster
since the first of tbe month in the
veins of bituminous coal underlying
Western Pennsylvania and West
Virginia, for the Naomi mine near
Fayette City and the two mines at
Monongab, W. Va., in which the
earlier explosions happened, are in
the same belt as the local workings.
Today’s catastrophe swells the num.
ber of victims of deadly mine gas
for the 19 days to between 550 and
600.
