Coquille Herald. WEDNESDAY, OCT. 0, 1907. R ebekah C onvention Representatives of Rebakab lodg es of Myrtle Point, Bandon, North Beni and Marshfield arrived in Co- quille on the morning of October 2nd for the purpose of holding the first annual convention of the Re bekah Lodges of District No. 18. Mrs. Galloway of Yamhill county, President of the Rebekah assembly of Oregon was present. The reception committee met the visiting Rebekahs at the various boats and trains and escorted them to the banquet hall of the I. O. O. F. building where luncheon was served. The tables were spread with a bountiful supply of delicacies, con- sistingof stewed chicken with gravy, cold sliced tongue, creamed pota toes,sliced tomatoes, potato and cab bage salad, sweet pickles, apple, pumpkin and lemon pies, cakes, fruits, tea and coffee. The hall was draped in pink and green, emblematic of the order, and the tables elaborately decorated with snowy clothes, hand made doilies, and a profusion of bright sweet peas and carnations placed in tall vases. At 2:30 p. m. the convention opened under the auspices of Mamie Lodge No. 20., Mrs. Chas. Skeels, Noble Grand in the chair. Mrs Annie Lawrence of Mamie lodge delivered the address of wel come, to which Mrs. Adame, of Una lodge responded. Mrs. Kate Duebuer of Western Star lodge waB elected chairman, and Mrs. Inez Chase of Mamie lodge, secretary; Mrs- Anna Robin son, Mamie lodge Marshal; Mrs. McCloskey, Una lodge, conductor Mrs. Craine, Ocean lodge, outside guard; Mrs. Mary Gage, Mamie lodge, inside guard; Mrs. Perkins Una, chaplain. It was voted that the next con vention be held in Marshfield un der the auspeccs of Western Star lodge, and the following officers were elected for the next session; chairman, Nellie A. Owen Western Star lodge, Annie Robinson of Ma mie lodge, secretary. The other officers will be appointed at the time the convention meets. The evening session consisted principally of the exemplified by the 1 ocal lodge. The President made a short but very pleasing address, answered many questions and highley com mented Mamie lodge for the manner in which the initiatory work was put on. After the close of the session nil gathered again nt the tables where fruit punch and cake were served. All in attendance pronouuced the first convention a success aud agreed with one voice that annual conven tions must be a foatnre of the Re- bekah work, hereafter.
