Organization of a temporary port commission for Coos Bay was effect ed at a joiut meeting o* the com mittees from the Marshfield and North Bend Chambers of Com- \ merce last evening. The joint conference avsb held in the Chamber of Commerce hall in this city. Present were William Grimes, J. C. Flanagan ,aud B. F- Waite from the Marshfield Cham ber, and H. C. Diet:; and T. B. James uf North Bend Chamber. Organization was effected by the election of H. C. Hiers chairman, and H. Seuataokeu secretary. The Marshfield Chamber of Com merce Hall was selected as the per manent place of meeting for the joint committee. Cbairmau Diers, J. H. Flanagan aud H. SeDstacken were appointed a committee to determine upon a boundary line for a harbor district. For that purpose the committee was authorized to employ an engin eer nnd incur other necessary ex penses. Eugene Robinson was em ployed for the work. It was also ordered that the com mittee should examine data and learn what effect the proposed dredg ing and filling of lower lands would bat’e on the tidal areas aud flow of water at the bar. The committee was also instructed to investigate and find what form would be necessary to obtain the port commission. Whether it could be done by refer endum, by local vote, or whether the legislature would have power. It was prooased to ask the gov ernment to give twenty feet and the water front owners of Marsh field twenty feet on the west side of the channel, in order to furnish a straight public way through Marsh field. It was stated that North Bend has 1,200 feet of publio wharf, aud Plat B has 330 feet of publio water front, which will eventually be wharfage.
