J. J. STANLEY,
Attorney for Plaintiff.
Judge Guerry has returned from
Gardiner, where he attended the pre
liminary hearings of Ole Oleson and
H. C. Miller, who are charged with
tne killing of August Pollow on
Sunday, February 17.
The two
men were bound over to await the
action of the grand jury.
The circumstances surrounding
the case would indicate that the
killing was accidental, and the evi
dence takeu, it is claimed, points to
this fact. The three men are said
to have been close friends. On the
day the crime was committed Olson
went out to Pollow’s house. Both
were drinking, and after a little time
Pollow proposed that they go up
to Miller’s house, as they had some
business to attend to.
Miller’s
house is about five miles up the
Umpqua river from Gardiner, Ar
riving at the house the trio drank
together, Pollow and Oleson having
brought two bottles of whiskey
with them. It is then alleged that
the rifle shot was heard and inves
tigation proved that be was dead.
It ie the supposition that he we nt
to tamper with the rifle.
