K î O Coquille Jerald. W EDNESDAY, DEC. 12 1906. The President’s Message read at tbe recent convening of Congress was a masterly document, full of wisdom, logic and good common- sense, for which President Roose velt is noted but one stand he takes does not strike the people of this coast as being the proper thing. The citizens of California, Oregon and Washington will never give up to have their children sit alongside of Japanese and Chinese in our pub lic schools. In regard to this feature of the Message, Governor Chamber- lain says: ‘‘The west is unaltera bly opposed to joint occupancy of public schoolrooms by Japanese or Chinese and our white children. We are also against admission of Chinese or Japanese coolies. The present controversy over the Japan ese has nssumed a phase which calls for application of more common sense than has been manifested in in some quarters. The interpreta tion of treaties resist solely with the courts, and certainly not with the executive branch of the Govern ment, through the military, as President Roosevelt threatens. It appears to me that the admin istration is inconsistent in attempt ing to force association in the pub lic schools of an inferior race with white children, when here in the District of Columbia there is a sys tem of separate schools for whites and negroes. “ Let the President and Congress demonstrate here tbe theory of such association before trying to force objeotionable policies on tbe people of the Pacifio Coast" Dairymen Take Medicine. In Coquille, December 5tb, 1906, at the Tuttle Hotel, home of tho bride’s mother, was witnessed the ceremony which united the lives of one more o f our young couples, this time tbe contracting parties being Mr. Bert Folsom and Miss Susie Tuttle, both well known here. The bride was dressed in a beautiful saten gown trimmed in chiffon and wore a bridal vale also of chiffon, and a wreath o f orange blossoms and caried a beautiful bouquet of rosebuds. Clarence Tuttle acted as best man while Miss Kate McDaniel was bride’s maid, and Miss Elsie Tilman played the wedding march and little Mi3s Alice Gallier was ring bearer. The beautiul ring ceremony was used by Rev. Branham as the cou ple stood under a large and beauti fully constructed bell and the room was other wise beautifully decorated A sumptuous supper was served in the dining room of the hotel to which the party did ample justice, after which congratulations and well wishes for this happy couple were the closing scene, in which the H erau > joins heartly.
