E ditor H erald : At the begiD- A petition is being circulated in this county asking the authorities to re-establish the law paying a bounty on the scalps of certain wild animals. It is thought by many that this will offer the most econ omical and efficient protection to our deer. The theory is advanced that our good-sized family of cou gars will kill more deer in the course of a year than two or three of the most vigilant and faithful game warden’s to be found can save b j the prosecuting of persons who are so heedless of law as to kill deer out of season, or kill more during the season than the law pre scribes, and we are inclined to think they are correct in their con clusions. It is a well known fact that cougars kill large numbers of deer, as the remains of their car ouses are found in the woods by persons passing through. Their is no open or close season with them, they are conntantly killing tho year round wholly regardless of ageor sex Typhoon Death List Thousands Hongkong, Sept, 21.— The entire fieet of 600 fishing junks was lost in the This increases the the 10.000. persons. typhooD. mortality to As a result o f the recent typhoon, the Royal Duth Petrolium Com pany's lighter, loaded with oil, while being pumped out into tanks, was stranded, but was subsequently refloated.
