The anuunl encampment of the soldiers of the Southwestern Oregon Veterans’ Association and the reun ion of the Coos County Pioneers’ Association held at Myrtle Point this year, closed on Friday evening after three days real and wholesome enjoyment. The enterprising citizens of the town had left nothing undone which would add to the Comfort or pleasure of its visitors, and the city itself was dressed in its Sunday best. Spruce street, the principal thoroughfare through the city was decorated with evergreens, flags and hunting in a manner that w ould have d on e cred it to a city, while the grov e was seated, and also deco rated with flags and bunting and a new platform con stru cted and in all ways put in p e rfe ct order. The reception committee accom panied by a fife and drum corps aud Company Q of the guard house squad, met all trains and extended a hearty welcome to all arriving guests and escorted them to the grounde. The exercises at the grove were of u pleasing and entertaining na ture all the way through, beginning Wednesday evening whon Mayor Leep formally turned the keys of the city (excepting those of the chicken houses) over to the visit ors, and, we might say hore that he might as well included them, as it was discovered by some enter prising vet that a cork-screw would do the buines, but the results of the discovery must not be explained. Colonel It. H. Rosa, of Bandon, responded to the Mayor’s welcome on behalf of the veterans, accepting the courtisies extended and gave full assurance of a hearty apprecia tion of the same, and referred to the faot that this was not the first reunion they had enjoyed in Myrtle Point. Miss Dora Williams on behalf of McKinley circle extended a hearty welcome to the veterans and their wives in a prettily worded address Owing to the crowded condition of our columns we are obliged to defer the publication of the balance of the program, but give below the MT38TER OUT BOLL.
