Nosler’s guessing contest last week
we gave Mrs. J. T. Nosier as one of
the successful parties instead of
Mrs. M. McDonald.
P R O C LA M A TIO N .
Whereas, there was submitted to
the electors of the State at the last
general election as required by law
an initiative petition for,
MA law to provide additional rev­
enue for state purposes aod to levy
a license on the gross earnings of
certain companies and corporations,
to-wit: express companies or cor­
porations, telephone companies or
corporations doing business in this
state; defining the manner of ascer­
taining the amount of such gross
earnings, providing a penalty for
violating the provisions o f the act,
defining an express company, a tele­
phone company and a telegraph
company within the meaning of the
act;” and
Whereas, on the 25th day of June,
190C, the Secretary of State in my
presence as Governor of the State of
Oregon did canvas the votes given
for and against said law, and
Wheroas, it was ascertained and
determined upon such canvass that
there were 70,872 votes cast for
said proposed law, and 6,360 votes
against the same, and that said pro­
posed law received an affirmative
majority of the total numbei of
effective votes cast thereon and eu-
titled to be counted under the pro­
visions of law,
Now, therefore, I, George E.
Chamberlain, as Governor of the
State of OregoD, in obedience to
and by virtue of the power and au­
thority vested in me by law, do here­
by make and issue tnis proclamation
to the people of the State of Oregon,
and do announce and declare that
the whole number of votes cast in
the State of Oregon at said election
for and against said proposed law
was as hereinbefore stated, and that
said proposed law received an affir­
mative majority of the total num­
ber of votes cast thereon and en­
titled to beoounted under the pro­
visions of law, and that said law
hereinbefore mentioned shall be and
is in full force and effect as the
law of the State of Oregon from
