A statement was made by a person who was advocat ing plank roads, that there is a rock road in the vicinity of Portland which the wagons cut through when heavy loads of ties were hauled over it and that the sawmills gave lum ber to plank the rock road so the ties could be hauled. As it would be well for the peo ple to know more about that “ rock road, I wrote to Judge Webster, of Multnomah county, asking for the facts in the case, also for informa tion as concerning the experience of Multnomah county with plank and rocks roads. Judge Webster bamled my letter to Road Super visor H. 11. Chapman for detailed reply. As it is interesting and in structive reading for those interest ed in permanent road building, will you please publish it iu the H erald that the entire county may have the benefit of the information contained therein. The following is an instance of this sort: “Too much cannot be said in favor of Chamberlain’s Cough Rem edy, and especially for colds and influenza.
