Coquille tyerald. W ED NESD AY, NOV. ,8 1905. M yrtle Point's School. Vt the close o f the first mouth of tin Myrtle Point school a very ex- i . !lm t showing has been made and tl.o management has seen fit to establish the tenth grade, including n two year course of high school w >rk. The attendance has been excellent, and not one pupil had quit school. There are 30 pupils from outside districts in attendance. Tue rival eurolliuent is upwards of 2 >0, and constantly on the increase, seven teachers being required to do them justice. There sre 31 in the 8th grade under the care of the principal, Prof B. E. Baker, who aro making highly satisfactory p rog ress. Myrtle Pooint certainly has a school of which she is justly proud, aid of which she does not hesitate to show her appreciation. Oregon .«Launch®,! S IM S 0 IU Prosper, Oregon, October 31st. — The launching of the nsw schooner at this place, Saturday, was a decid ed success, and owing to the beauti ful weather, crowds from differnt points along the river, transported by the tug Triumph and steamer Favorite, gathered to witness the eveut. About noon the new vessel slid gracefully into the water, while Miss Sara Fahy dashed the bottle of wine on the vessel’s bow, saying I christen thee, Oregon.” The Ore gon is certainly a credit to the buil der, Mr. E. Heuckendorff, well known on Cooe Bay and the Co quille. She is a staunch and sea- wort by craft, and one o f the finest of tbe kind built on tbe river; is 150 feet in length, 34 feet beam, with a depth of 10 feet, and will carry 375 M feet of lumber. She is owned and managed principally by people on tbe river, and will go on the Co. quille-San Francisco run. Capt. Anderson, one of best known navi gators on the coast, will have charge and command of the new vessel.— Recorder Challenge. RECORDER'S COURT OF TH E STATE OF OREGON, FOR T H E COUNTY OF COOS, as. This 26th day of Octolier, 1905. ROBERT BURNS, Attorney for City of Coquille. ■— Portland, Oregon Nov. 4.— At a meeting of the Portland city coun cil last night the application of Hon. T. R. Sheridan, of Roseburg, for a franchise for an electric car lice on Front street was discusser! in committee of the whole. Hon. Dan J. Malarkey said that instead of an electric car line from Portland through the Willamette valley, as given out, this movement really means another trans-continental railway line into Portland. Atty. W. D. Fenton, of the S. P R. Co., Hon. Joseph N. Teal and others strenuously opposed the granting of the franchise asked for. Being unable to reach a definite conclusion the council held the mat ter over for further consideration. H . A. Webster, of Oregon City, deputy Ssh warden, arrived in town Monday and proceeded down the river the same day. Mr. Webster speaks in the highest terms of the work of W . V. Smith, manager of the Coos county hatchery located on Coos river. There are plenty ol fish in Sue condition from which the spond will be taken, and the only thing remaining is to hatch and properly "plant" the young fish where their environments will bo conducive to the proper develop inent of the snoot making them fit subjects to enter the si«, nlioul which there is some difference of opinions.
