Horner, head o f the history department at O. A . C-. over here Tuesday morning fr a Bay and made a talk at the U gh bool in the afternoon and in the evening gave his illustrated lecture oa the Holy Land to a U rge audience at the Federated church, ¡the pictures were mostly taken by Prof. Horne» and his talk in connection with them proved especially ineresting, a vain o f humor running through it all. | Those of us who have not seen Pal estine, and hardly expect to, were gratified to see the hundred views o f the country from Joppa* to Jerusalem and Jericho including the holy eepul cher end the garden o f GethsemanC. The Professor recalled a former vis made to this county 26 years ago ond was met and greeted by a number o f people who remembered Us former visit. He said that he woe in the habit of visiting this section regu larly every quarter o f a century. Prof. Horner's main object in thie trip was to arouse the interest o f our young people in O. A. C. and the in- dusrial courses there taught. I t was astonishing to learn from him that the number o f students registered at the college this yc^r is 4067, and yet he says there are ten positions wait ing to be filled by each graduate. While the country demands a cer tain number o f professional men, yet for ev e r} doctor, lawyer or presenter, he asserted that from 300 to 600 trained industrial leaders are needed. He went on to say in his talk with us that the agricultural colleges are co-operating with the churches o f the nation in the great new era movement in equipping young men and women to bo the greatest possible service to the world. America is the ono granary to supply bread for mankind. The demand for intelligent industrial lead ers has never been equalled, in feed ing and clothing a hungry world. There ere now registered at O. A. C. fifty-four students from Cooa coun ty, the list comprising twenty-three from the Coquille valley as follows: Coquille— W. A . Ball, E. E. Fracd- ricka, A. L. Hooton, Etta McLeod, M il dred Norton, J. C. Nosier, C. H. Oerding, J. C. Oerding, Edn Robison, Lowell Simpson. Myttle Point— E. E. Cart or, H. C. Gant, O. D. Gant, K. A. Lasp, F. L. Maua, C. L. Noeler, A . E. Panter. Bandon— S. W. Armstrong, G. C. Bord, E. F. Fish, L. N. HadsalL April 19— Clyde Lillie end Beunlce Robison, o f Arago. They were mar- marled the same day by Justice Stan ley at his office. April 19— J. A . Skinner and Hildur Selandor, both o f Sumner. April 22— Thomas D. Fee and An nie Leneve, both o f Bandon. They were married on the 28 rd by Rev. W. S. Smith at hie residence. A p ril 22— John Thomas Ingram and Florence Margaret Ellenbeck, both ol Marshfield. They were married the tame day by Judge Watson at the court house. Probate Court It« Rose E. Sumner was on April 16 appointed ada.inistratrix of the es tate o f Frank T. Sumner. The prop erty consiste o f real estate valued at »3,000. Claud H. Giles, o f M yrtle Point, was cn April 22nd appoit: tod admin istrator o f the estate o f Armenia J. Welhey. Her estate consists o f real property valued at $1,100 and per sonal property Valued at $1,660. The appraisers are E. C. Roberta, E. A. Dodge and Z. T. Johnson. A petition has been filed fo r the appointment o f a guardian fo r Archie A. Ekjlad. Cashier Pays Two Fines Considerable excitement was caused in Marshfield Tuesday whon W. E. Butler, cashier o f the First National Bank, was arrested by Constable Goodman as he was coming up from the City of Topeka, just in from San Francisco, with a quart bottle o f boose in each hip pocket. Butler tried to bribe the officer, offering to let him name his dwn price to hush the mat ter up, but the constable was ada mant. Butler had to appear in the recorder’s court Monday where he pleaded guilty to violating the city boose ordinance and was let off easy with a fine of $26. That seemed like child's play to Justice Joe'.ink, how ever, and he had the cashier pulled again under the state law and stuck him for $100. Boose appears to be costing a good deal at he Bay now, and if all officers charged with law enforcement did their duty as faith fully as Goodman and Jochnk times would soon get pretty dry even over there. Y et dhe of the papers there whinee about “ persecution” when a way up offender is let off with mere fines instead o f being sent to jail as a hobo who was guilty of the same o f fense probably would be. Prohibition will be enforced in this nation some day without discrimination and then it will be about as hard to get a bot tle o f Cyrus Noble whiskey as to pass through the eye o f a needle.
