The boundary line between Coos
and C urry counties w ifi leave
| the meandering ridge between the
Coquille rivjer and streams south
of the Coquille and settle down on
sectional and subdivision lines if
the 1951 state legislature supports
a resolution adopted by the Coos
and Curry county courts.
The boundary line now p ro - 1
ceeds “ westerly along the s u m -’
m it of the ridge dividing the
waters of the Coquille rive r from
those which discharge thmeselves
into the ocean.” This line has
never been surveyed, and it is es­
timated that a survey would cost
more than >70,000. The line winds
over more than 60 miles of rough
terrain.
L. D. Felshiem, Coos county
judge, said the assessors of Coos
and C urry counties got together
about the beginning o f this cen­
tury to discuss the problem of
assessing property which lay
partly in each county, w ith no
one knowing how much of it was
; in each county because of the lack
' of surveys.
The assessors, therefore, arbi­
tra rily fixed a boundary line for
assessment purposes, following
the ridge line as closely as possi­
ble, but describing the property
ay legal subdivisions. Since then,
; Coos county has been taxing some
, property located in Curry county,
and C urry county has been collect­
ing taxes on spme property located
