Hears From George
" A letter received yesterday by Al­
bert Maiden was from his son,
George, taken prisoner on Wake
Island in January, 1M2. when the
Japs captured the civilians working
on the islands as well as the service
men.
The letter was evidently written
last January and was sent to the mine
near Holland, Ore., where George
and his father were working before
he went to Wake, It was forwarded
from Holland.
Mr. Maiden has
opinion that most
when they read the following letter,
that the Jap praise was included to
make sure, the missive passed the
censors there:

Second Lieutenant George Wasley
Laird, 26, of Coquille, waa scheduled
to be graduated from the Marine
Corps Reserve Officers School yes­
terday at Quantico, Virginia. After
completing his advanced officer in­
struction he will then be ready for
