"The Great Ben Allah/' December 4 Monday Night Ciab Names of many Coquille clubs have changed this winter, with the chang ing of their meeting nights. The Monday Night Bridge Chib only has changed its meeting night thia week for convenience sake and the mem bers were entertained on Tuesday evening by Mrs Edna Hgrtson. Mrs. Nora Rosa won high score and Mrs. Emma Pieroe, traveling prize. Mrs. W. E. Bosserman was an extra guest. Other memebra present were Mes- dames Bert Folsom, J. A. Lamb, E. W. Lorenz, Muri Pettit and Jane Wil liams J. H. Oerding's 88th Birthday Observed Coquille Studio WE PHOTOGRAPH Old Photographs The annual Oerding family reunion was held at the home of Miss Ida F. Oerding on Thanksgiving day in honor of the 88th birthday of her father, J. H. Oerding. ------------ The rooms were beautifully deco rated for the occasion with chrysan themums and asparagus fems. A huge birthday cake was presented to Mr. Oerding, while “Happy Birth day** was sung by all, with Mrs. John C. Oerding at the piano. A 1:00 o’clock turkey dinner was enjoyed by the following guests: Mrs. John C. Oerding, Virginia, Marjorie, John Jr. and Eddie, Adolph Johnson, and Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Perkins, all of Marshfield; Mrs. Lucille A. El lison andtGary of Santa Rosa, Cali fornia; Mrs. Felix Miller, of Lebanon; Mr. and Mrs. Harry H. Oerding, Mr. and Mrs. George. E. Oerding, Mr. and Mrs. Walter F. Oerding, Geraldine and Buzzy and Miss Alice M. Oerding, all of Coquille; Mr. and Mrs. William A. Oerding, Jimmy and .Billy, of Sutherlin, and the honored guest and hostess. Not alT of the family 'were able to be present. Three of the beys are in defense work. Albert is at Mare Island, Vallejo, California; John is at the shipyards in Portland, and Charles is in the Civil Service, as airplane radio technician in Seattle. Mrs. Stella Warner of Sonoma, California, was unable to be home for the oc casion, as her son Howard, Mr. Oer- ding’s grandson, was expecting to leave for the army soon after the first of* December. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Hensley Honored At Reception Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Hensley were the honor guests at a reception and post-nuptial shower at the Assembly of God church Saturday evening, No vember 21. The lower auditorium was prettily decorated with evergreen foliage and a table covered with a lace cloth was piled high with lovely and useful gifts. Mrs. Paul Pinkston, sister of the bride, assisted with un wrapping the gifts. Mrs. Elmer Good paster, aunt of the bride, was hostess for the evening. After a short program the Misses Violet Howard, Margaret Steward, Jean and Mary Lou Newton served delicious refreshments, consisting of dainty sandwiches, walnut cookies, punch and a large three-tier wedding cake topped by a miniature bride and groom. The guests were Messrs, and Mes dames A. B. Schroeder, Elmer Good paster, Martin Pinkston, Bruce Owen, Oscar Walford, E. L. Smith, A. M. Potter, Mike Broad, Dave Nelson, H. C. Bellmore, Lloyd Persing, Wm. Van Fleet, Mesdames Bessie Marney, Le ona Swindal), Virginia Kyhn, Ada Howard, Chas. Newton, Peggy New ton, Paul Pinkston, Eva English, Messrs. F. D. Fish, Jerry White, Mel Steward, Everett Steward, Wayne Schroeder, Wilber Owen, Albert Smith, Glenn Heath, and the Misses Helen, Jean and Mary Lou Newton, Margaret Steward, Violet Howard, Winnifred and Shirley Van' Fleet, Irene White, Lorraine Smith, Ruby Marney and Delpha Owen. Take an eerie blue light, giving the Hindu prince a wierd look,»voioes shouting from the place of eternal life and snappy dialogue spoken by potential Hollywood stars and you have “The Great Ben Allah,’* play chosen by the Junior Class to be- given on December 4. ’J. The plot dells with a spiritaalist- ifunded woman, Mrs. Aldrich, and her daughter, ' Ruth, in love with Ben Allan, who isn't a spiritualist Ruth's aunt, Roberta, a kindly woman, decided tp.take a hand in the affair.and plans with Ben Allen as the Hindu spiritualist, “The Great Ben Allah.*' The arrival of Randy Rawlings, the old beau of Roberta’s is an unexpect ed happening, as is the hypnotism of Hawkins, the butler, and Dorothy, the maid. The seance, conducted by "The Great Ben Allah,” is so frightening that Mrs. Aldrich collapses in a faint. Come to the Junior Play to see the outcome. Why 'Mrs. Aldrich fainted, who the voice from afar is and how to un-hypnotize Dorothy and Hawkins. Have Been Mailed Dale Nichols, one of America's out standing younger artists, designed the Christmas Seals which the Junior Civic Club, under the able leadership of Faye Waggoner, have already mail ed to many Coqaille residents. The 1042 seal is a typical example of his work. It features a red bam and a white farmhouse with a drift lined road and a sleigh. Coos county’s support of the an nual seal sale provides the only source of income of the Coos County Health Association which each year has embarked on a largr program of health education-in the schools and continuous work in the prevention of tuberculosis. In the absence of the Noble Grand, Mrs. Mildred Schaer, the meeting was pre sided over by the Vice Noble Grand, Mrs. Bernice Clark. The first num ber was a reading by Mrs. Pansy Ross, followed by an accordion duet by Mrs.' Pearl Ellingsen and Miss Leah Rover, accompanied by Miss Inez Rover. Mrs. Frances Holmstrom read some of her own poems and the pro gram closed with accordion numbers by Lois Fenn. There was an election of new offi cers with Bernice Clark elected Noble Grand, Florence Hallock, vice noble grand; Myrtle Bonham, secretary, and Harriet Schaer, treasurer. Routine business was transacted. Because Tuesday night’s meeting was annual home-coming, letters from out of town members were read. Re freshments were served at long tables arranged to form an H for Home- coming. Autumn decorations were used and a centerpieoe was made of fruits and vegetables emerging from a tipped basket.
