< ''K Evelyn Gano Showered Monday A shower was given Miss Evelyn Gano at her home on Third street Monday evening at 8:30 o’clock. When Evelyn and the groom-to-be, Cecil Finley, who is home on a nlne- day furlough from the Naval base at San Diego, entered the room, they were greeted with two special songs In which their names appeared. Before the many lovely gifts were opened and adpiifed, Phyllis Bunch gave a reading, “Parting Lovers,” and Dr. J. R. Bunch showed a movie picture he had taken, “Our Gang,” which was shot on the sand dunes north of Coo» Bay at high school graduation time last May. ** Following the delightful program dainty refreshments were served to the following: Mesdames L. MARY WORTH’S FAMILY Co-ordinating Coal Committee Met Mon The Coos county coal committee, named recently by the county court, held the organization meeting in the county court room Monday evening and selected Judge E. L. Peterson as chairmun and John S. Mullen of North Bend, as secretary. Every city in the county is represented on the committee, O. L. Wood and L. H. Hazard being Coquille’s representa tives. , The most important decision reach ed Monday evening was the delegat ing of J. Stanley Emery, who was a coal dealer many years ago, to make a thorough survey at once of the coal situation in the eounty, contacting mine owners to ascertain what each needed to put his property on a full 1 production basis, what the present and the possible output of each might be, and anything else which might held in the development of Coos county's unlimited coal resources. Another decision was to ask for an immediate release by ' Secretary Of the Interior Ickes of the report pre pared by Geo. W. Evans for the Bu reau of Mines, which is expected to contain comprehensive data on the coal resources of southwestern Ore gon. Mr. Emery’s talk pn coal showed that he had a pretty complete know ledge of Coos county coal. Some of it is excellent, he said, and some not of as high a quality, and that veins had sometimes been lost because of a fault in the structure, but that with the proper equipment the coal indus? try could be brought to a rémunéra« tive basis where it could be a county wealth producer as the timber re sources are depleted. The county court is to be asked to turn over whatever is needed of the >1000 budgeted by the county for coal production to the special committee to be used for the survey and other preliminary expenses. rMsa» O* Bernice Gillespie underwent a ton silectomy on Tuesday and Muri Davis, of Coquille, an appendectomy yester day. H. C. Rigsby was brought in from Sixes last Thursday for treatment of an injured hip and leg,, received from a fall while he was working in the woods. ‘ ’ Geraldine McCulloch, of Myrtle Point, underwent an appendectomy on Saturday.
