The Union already holds several hundred dollars worth of defense bonds. ' 1 The Union, has made plans to set up an emergency canteen manned by its members. The Coquille Lions club, wives of members and invited guests, enjoyed a dinner dance at the Midway Club last Thursday evening. Dinner was at eight with a cocktail hour before. Fallowing the dinner there was an in­ stallation of new officers with R. A. Jeub acting as installing officer. New officers for the next year are: president. Burton Dunn; first vice president, Wm. Barrows; second vice president, C. H. Arney; third vice president, R. E. Harbison; secretary, Ned C. Kelley; tail-twister, Lin Swain; Lion-tamer, Bob Harris; directors for two years, Tallant Greenough and George Howe. Two hold-over directors are Ferb Emery and Dave Biegger. Lloyd Claver, out-going president, takes his place on the board as director for next year. Visitors Numerous At Rotary Meeting The Rotary Club held their first regular meeting with Elbert Schroe­ der, the new president, in the chair on Wednesday upon at the Coquille hotel. Rotarian guests present were E. E. Heintzleman and O. B. Kellogg, of Seattle; Jop Morgan, of Myrtle Point, and Vic Torrey, of Marshfied. Lion President Burton Dunn of the local den was a guest and said that his reception when he was introduced made him feel right at home. Spenny Ross, former Coquille Ro­ tarian, now of Hollywood, Calif., and S. H. Stockhoff, of Eureka, were also guests. Doris Ann Wood, Rotary’s Victory Girl candidate, was present and gar­ nered in quite a number of votes in­ cluding some from the Lions presi­ dent. Brand July 4th Speaker 7- A rollicking, square dancing con­ test with Granges of Coos and Curry counties will be a feature attraction at Coquille’s Victory Celebration at 3:3o Saturday afternoon. Prizes of a 350.00 Defense Bond for the first place and a 325.00 Defense Bond for second place will be the awards for the lucky victors of this exciting contest. The best caller will receive a prize of 35 00 in Defense Stamps and second best caller 32.50; in Defense Stamps. , ■ Eight dancers and a caller will be entered by each grange. Each con- testing team will go through one rou- tine and the outstanding teams will be called back by the judges for a sec- ond dance in order that they may de- termine the winners.
