Bishop and Abe Grossen at North Bend left Sunday for Corvallis where they went to represent Coos County at an agri cultural meeting of the A. A. A. They planned to return home Wednesday. Mrs. Harry Collier was able to re turn home from the hospital Satur day. '' - Mrs. Nile Miller returned home on Wednesday from Portland after vistt- ng at the home of her son and fam ily, Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Miller, for several weeks. She reports they are II well. . / l-eun Pauli of Goldendale, Welli ngton, came in Friday and is visiting at the home of hie daughter and fam ily, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Fish this week. George Pauli went to Portland Sunday to enlist. Mrs. Shull, grade school teacher, was ill the first of the week and un able to teach. Mrs. I. B. Sevy sub stituted for her. Mir. and Mrs. E. J. Myers were Sun day dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Halter. The annual election of officers for the Sunday school will be held the first Sunday in January. FOOTE, Mgr. 845% No. Coulter Drilling To Start Near Bandon After January 1 Invisible Halfsole The Western World at Bandon last week published a first page story entitled, "New Oil Drilling Project to Start After Jan. 1, Prepared for Definite Test,'* and goes on to say: What promises to become the moat comprehensive oil drilling project yet undertaken in this part of Oregon will begin shortly after the first of the year, when operations under the direction of John A. (Jack) Kelly will start on land in section IS, owned by John Nielson of Bandon, in the Bill’s Butte locality abobut three miles (air line) southeast of Bandon, and about five miles by road. Kelly, a driller of many yean at experience who came to Bandon from his home at Long Beach, Calif., short ly before the Pacific Petroleum Cor poration’s second well was abandoned here, when interviewed by a Western World representative, stated that all finances have been arranged and that the project Will not depend-upon the sale of stock or certificates. The equipment to be used is now operating under lease near San Francisco, and will be released with in a few weeks. It consists of a mod ern rotary drill with a power plant composed of four 250-h. p. butane gas motors. The hole will be 14 inches in diameter at the start and will reach the oil sand at 1214 inches in diame ter. The operation, with the initial equipment, will bo prepared to go to a depth of 7600 feet, according to Kelly. Drilling will be continuous through out 24 hour's of the day. Under or dinary conditions, it is estimated that a depth of 4500 feet will be reached, if necessary, in 20 days. Kelly is by no means a novice at the business. For ten years prior to 1981 Kelly was under contract as a driller in Burma and India. The Bur ma road, the lifeline of Ci^ina in the struggle with the Japanese which is so much in the news today, was traveled by Kelly when elephants and oxen were the only means of trans portation.
