Two Showers For
Mrs. John McNair
Mrs. John McNair was doubly sur
prised by members of the Co-Work
ers club Thursday, when as hostess
for the regular potluck dinner meet
ing, her guests gave her a bath towel
shower and a shower of miscellane
ous gifts. Visiting and fancy work
filled the afternoon, Those present
were the Mesdames Genie Chase,
Homer Detwiler, C, H. Dondolio,
Hui tin, Ivan Robison, John McNair
and W H. Schroeder.
Mrs. C. J. Fuhrman, of Sixes River,
Mrs. J. E. Norton and Mrs. Bert
Folsom were the hostesses Friday at
a buffet luncheon for members of
the J. G. W. club. During the after
noon, Mrs. Folsom brought out a lot
of old pictures, many taken of mem
bers years ago, when their clothes
were a good deal different from those
worn now. They had lots of giggles
over helmet hats, extra long waist
lines and hem lengths that varied
from ankle to knee, depending upon
the date of the picture. The J. G.
W. club was started when most of
the members were just out of school.
Many of them now have grown chil
dren so there were also pictures of
J. G. W.s as young mothers with
their babies.
Present at the party were the fal
lowing members: the Mesdames C. E.
Huling and Marvin Lyons, of Marsh
field; James Walstrom, of Bandon;
J. A. Lamb, E. W. Lorenz, J. E. Nor
ton, L. L. Rosa, Birdie Skeels, J. L.
Smith, Jane Williams, M. O. Hawkins,
H. A. Young, H. N. Lorenz R. V. Wil
helm, Bert Folsom and C. J. Fuhr
man, of Sixes River. Guests were
Mrs. George McClellan and daughter,
Donna, of Lebanon.
Mrs. W. H. Fortier gave several
parties during the week for her sister,
Mrs. Malinda Oderkirk, and Mrs.
Oderkirk's daughter, Mrs. Jack Saun
ders, of Roseburg, who were house
guests at the Fortier home for nearly
a week.
Mrs. Oderkirk, who is a former
,Coos resident, has achieved consid
erable recognition as a poetess. Be
sides publication in various newspa
pers throughout the Northwest, sev-
•ral of Mrs. Oderkirk's poems have
appeared in recently published an
thologies of modern verse.
On Thursday evening, Mrs. For
tier gave a surprise shower party for
Mrs. Saunders. Among the guests
were the Messrs, and Mesdames A.
R. Oderkirk and William Young, of
North Bend; Peyton Oderkirk, of
Marshfield; J. J. Esser, V R Oder
kirk and V. R. McCurdy.
A family dinner party on Sunday,
when places were set for 14 ended
festivities for the visitors. One eve
ning, while they were here, was
devoted to moving pictures taken by
V. R. McCurdy. Both Mrs. Oder
kirk and Mrs. Saunders enjoyed their
visit here and their opportunity to
see old friends and relatives.
