930 Pupils Sing
At Music Festival
Nine hundred and thirty elemen­
tary and junior high boys and girls
were in the ensemble singing for the
Coos County Music Festival held in
the Coquille high school gymnasium
last Saturday, April 26. This was
the largest group entered during the
seven years the festival has been held.
Most of the-school districts in Coos
county, even those at the greatest dis­
tance, were represented.
The Coos County Music Festival
represents the splendid working to­
gether of all superintendents, teachers,
pupils, parents, school board members
and other friends.

their Pinochle club Saturday eve­
ning at dessert. Tables were deco­
rated with dainty bouquets of Cecil
Brunner roses. frtr. and Mrs. Ralph
Taylor were high scorers and Mr. and
Mrs. C. Vernon Smith were consoled.

ut the George ’Gilman home, when
Mrs. Gilman entertained at a sewing
party and informal tea. Guests were

Carl and Mrs. Keith Kribs. Members

A bath towel shower was given for
Mrs. Ivan Robison Thursday by mem­
bers of the Co-Workers club, who
were entertained by Mrs. Robison for
potluck luncheon at the John McNair
home. Fancy work engaged the mem­
bers during the afternoon. Guests at
luncheon included Mrs. Jack Albert­
son, Mr. Ray Hultin and Mr. John
McNair. Club members present were
Mesdames Genie Chase, Homer Det­
wiler, C. H. Dondono, Mac Gant, Adna i
Holycross and daughter Glenda, Roy
Hultin, James McGuffin, Frank Mc­

Mr. and Mrs. Harry Oerding gave
a jolly party Sunday at the Richmond
cottage at Bandon. There were 26
guests, who came early in the day
for dinner, played horseshoes and
hiked on the beach, and played vari- j
ous games in the cottage. Late in
the afternoon, their appetites, stimu­
lated by the brisk salt air, were ap­
peased with supper. Members of

Friday evening with Mrs. Minnie

Townsend Club
To organize the Coquille Garden
club, which is affiliating with the
Oregon Federation of Garden clubs,
Mrs. C. R. Hanning, district vice
president, and Mrs. L. E. Brown,
prominent member of the Marshfield
group, met here Friday afternoon
with local garden enthusiasts, who
gathered at the Levi Wilson home.
Officers named to head the newly
formed group are Mrs. Fred Martin,
president, Mrs. George Griggs, first
vice president; Mrs. E. H. O’Dell, sec­
ond vice president; Mrs. Levi Wilson,
secretary, and Mrs Roy Wheeler,
treasurer. Mrs. Walter Newton was
chosen to represent the club aa its
official mother at the Mother’s Dey
program, May 11.
When the business meeting had ad­
journed, club members went to view
the Clifford Kern garden, which is
particularly lovely with Its early
spring blooms. Attending the meet­
