u Because ot the inteiwl shown in
i j the cotton mattress program which is
I designed to make efficient use of but .
• i plus coyon und to benefit living con
ditions for rural families, and of
changes in regulations governing the
ordering of materials, the deadline
fur tiling applications has been ex
tended from April 15 4o May IS, ac
cording to Dorothy E. Bishop, home
demonstration agent.
In addition, it has just been an
nounced through a supplement to the
cotton mattress program that cotton
and other materials will be available
to applicants to be used in making
one comforter for each mattress con
structed through this program. Each
applicant is being advised of this sup
plement and will have an opportunity
to apply for these materials, accord
ing to plans completed at a meeting of
representatives of those agencies who
are participating in the administration
<>f this program in Coos county.
A carload of cotton and ticking
which will be used to construct 440
mattresses already applied for is
being ordered this week by the county
Agricultural Conservation committee.
A follow-up order will be placed
about the middle of May for enough,
additional materials to be used in
instructing mattresses and comfor
ters applied for prior to that time.
Following receipt here of the sur
plus cotton from the southern states,
mattresses and comforters will be
made by the applicants themselves at
work centers which will be estab
lished at several points throughout
the courtly. Exact dates and these
centers for construction will be an
nounced soon. The cotton is expected
to arrive early in June, and the work
in each center will start soon after
that time.
While this is not a relief project,
its benefits are restricted to rural
families .(including all of those living
